Higher Education and Research
Maryland’s colleges and universities are national leaders in many fields and important partners with the Division of Early Intervention and Special Education Services in elevating the performance of our special education system and improving outcomes for children and youth with disabilities and their families. Grants to IHEs across the State support innovative work aligned to the Division’s strategic imperatives.
College and university partners conduct and disseminate research in key areas to develop and promote best practices and measure the impact of State and local activities. Resources for professional learning and family engagement are created and disseminated by IHEs across the State. Support to teacher preparation programs promotes the development of innovative coursework and effective mentoring to prepare the next generation of teacher-leaders in special education.
