Introduction to Deafblindness
Deafblindness is the combination of hearing and vision loss to the degree that it impacts communication, concept development, and orientation to the environment. It is a disability of access, as 90% of information is typically received through either vision or hearing. This video provides an introduction to the unique educational needs of a child with deafblindness as well as strategies and tools to assist in creating an accessible learning environment to meet these unique needs. The term “intervener” is defined along with an explanation of how their role is pivotal to the success of a child who is deafblind.
